Hi Cheese!

This morning was hectic and I spent a lot of time on the phone. Poor Baby Dude was kind of neglected during all of this and I had left the TV on Nick Jr. It was long past time when Dora and Diego were over, even past Backyardigans.

We were getting ready to leave to run some errands and I'm putting on his coat. The tv was still on. Baby Dude runs over to the TV, waves and says, "Hi Cheese!"

*scratching my head here - there is a new show about cheese?*

I look up and it was Sponge Bob!

Later, in Target, we passed some Sponge Bob pj's and he notices them, and again says, "Hi Cheese!"

This kid just cracks me up all the time!

Baby Dude's Halloween

Given his obsession with"goo-kins" a pumpkin costume seemed about right. No way was the hood going on though.

Baby Dude and Daddy went to Treatslyvania, a local trick or treating event just for little ones, where they met up with his cousins, aunt and uncle.

And on Halloween Day, we met up with family again and all went to the Tiny Tot Parade through Old Town, our historic, restored downtown area. All the business owners come out and do trick or treating on Halloween morning for the little ones, then there is the Monster Mash dance party at one of the night clubs after. Baby Dude LOVES to dance so I think that was the best part for him. :)

Playing in the Leaves

We spent a long time raking leaves on Saturday. I wasn't too sure how Baby Dude would do in the front yard, since we live close to a very busy street. But he did great!

He was very interested in the "gake" (rake) and the "gick" (stick) or handle of the rake. We found a small one in the shed and Daddy showed him how to use it.

Harvest Farm Day

We spent a gorgeous fall day at Harvest Farms and Baby Dude had an absolute ball! He was in "goo-kin" heaven with the Pumpkin Patch. There were so many pumpkins he just kept running all over pointing them out.

They had a wonderful petting zoo and he got up close to bunnies, pigs, a cow, alpacas and lots of sheep and goats.

They had a sand box filled with corn too! He wasn't too sure about it, but then he decided it was pretty fun.

We'll definitely be back there next year! :)

The Thomas Obsession

It has officially hit our house. Baby Dude is obsessed with Thomas the Train and his friends, particularly Percy and Emily. We have a miniature version of Thomas and Percy, and they must go everywhere with us these days! If he doesn't want to carry them, he hands them to me and says "tocket?" meaning put them in my pocket.

He's getting so many new words and his pronunciation of things gets better all the time. But Thomas certainly has him stumped. He's convinced that it's "Hah-nutz", "Doo-cee" and "Nee-a-nee" (Thomas, Percy and Emily.) And he's constantly telling us that they are "ehn-gines", then pointing our their colors of "geen, ded and boo." He loves to say "oh-wange" and "puh-pull" too.

His wardrobe now includes two "Hah-nutz" shirts and he insists on wearing them nearly every day. Every week or so, we head to the library and pick out a new "Hah-nuts dee-dee-dee" (Thomas DVD) Where he picked up the term DVD is beyond me!

If the Thomas craze keeps up, it's a strong possibility that he'll get a train set from Santa. :)

Nees 'a Toes!

This is what I am hearing over the monitor today when Baby Dude is *supposed* to be sleeping. He's really into singing with us right now so he is singing his version of "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" - he's especially good at the "nees 'a toes" part.

In the tub, he'll sing "Row Your Boat" with us - it comes out like "woh, woh, woh a dote! mey-yee, mey-yee a dote!"

And of course, Barbara Ann from the Beach Boys. My mom always sang that with us as kids, so I started with him too. "Bah bah bah...oh hand" (from the line 'Barbara Ann... oh take my hand')

We start a class with him next week - Shake Rattle & Roll - my mom enrolled Baby Dude and his cousin. So who knows what new songs he'll add to his list!

Despite the Terrible Two's, this really is a fun age. :)

Baby Dude is TWO!

Baby Dude got a fish tank from us for his birthday with "yeesh" as he calls them.

His "Dirt Day" Cake, as he called it.

Opening presents - a small blue eye peaking through...

Bring on the terrible two's!

Baby Dude had quite a party! Lots of family and friends came to celebrate with us! There was two kiddie pools, a water table and his climber/slide all set up in the backyard. Daddy was the King of Grill and kept the food coming.

A wedding, family reunion and a new BFF for Baby Dude

A few weeks ago, we headed up to Montana to attend my cousin's wedding and spend time with all of my family up there. We piled in the minivan with my Mom and Stepdad, then made an uneventful eight hour drive to get there. Baby Dude did really well and had lots of people to entertain him.

Baby Dude quickly became friends with my cousin's little girl. She is 19mths old and just the cutest thing! She has a really fun personality and just charges ahead - so watch out! ;) They played together SO well and I really wish we lived closer so they could do that more.

Before the wedding, he was very interested in the gazebo where the ceremony was going to take place and we snapped some great shots of him in there.

After the wedding, Baby Dude got his first look at a big dance floor and all the kids dancing. He decided that could be a lot of fun and really got into it. He and his new bff/cousin were out there dancing the night away. He was enthralled by all the lights and the big spinning ball. (see pic) He would get so excited by that ball and yell "Ball! Ball! Ball!" then start dancing again!

He's starting to get much better in the pool - he just gets cold too fast and has to get out after about 30mins. The hotel had a great pool that we were in every day. Grandma purchased a swimsuit with built in floaties and he liked that much better, though Daddy is not thrilled about the false sense of security in the water like that.

New tricks from my Little Stinker!

Two (or almost) is a fun age - but a really tough one too! Luckily, the good times out number the bad for the most part.

He is most definitely in another developmental phase and I think it's mostly about doing things on his own, communicating what he wants and not being able to do either of those things the way he wants to yet. But, he's also learning some funny things too!

He asks for "hep" (help) a lot - when he needs something, can't reach it, etc. His latest game - he'll say "Uh oh! Hep" and I'll ask him what he needs help with. He'll smirk and say "Dee Dee" - which means that he wants to watch TV! He'll do this in the car, the store - places where we are no where near the tv.

The past few nights he has been EXTREMELY clingy before bed time. We go through his same routine, and he'll reach for me if he is in Daddy's arms. He throws his arms around my neck, wraps his legs around my waist, puts his head on my shoulder and says "oh Mama" in this sweet voice. Then, he'll stay like that until I pry him off. As much as I love the snuggles, he must go to bed at some point and he's too heavy to hold for too long. Of course, getting put down does not make him happy and he'll scream, even after I leave the room. :(

He ate a lot of waffles for breakfast when we were in MT - part of the continental breakfast, lol. So, now he wants waffles every day and all the time! No fresh waffles here, just Eggo, lol. So, he'll go to the freezer door, knock on it and say "Hello? Waffle?" It cracks me up!

Today, we were in the Mall and I told him we were going home. "No No No! Eat!" *sigh* He has now associated going to the Mall with eating Chik-Fil-A! He LOVES their nuggets. So, we made a quick stop and got some nuggets, sat by the big water fountain and had an impromptu lunch.

Baby Dude jabbers ALL the time and I just know that when he really gets his vocabulary down, he is going to be a little chatterbox and never be quiet!

After some struggling, he has decided that holding our hand in public is ok because it means he gets to walk and not be in the stroller. When he wants to go somewhere, he walks over and says "a hand!" I think he picked that up from us always telling him that he has to hold our hand. It's so cute to look down and see this little person just trotting along holding your hand.

Big Boy Haircut!

Baby Dude seems to have inherited his Daddy's hot body temperature so we decided to cut him short for summer.

We went to Cool Cuts 4 Kids and had the best stylist - and aging hipped named Miss Karla who was not the least bit flustered by his screaming...little stinker that he is!

*sniff, sniff* He looks like such a little boy with this new cut.

Swimming!

We took Baby Dude to one of the indoor city pools today. It has a huge wading pool and also a warm water therapy pool too, so it's great for kids.

When we first got in the wading pool, Baby Dude was just not too sure about it. Plus, the water was kinda cold. I'm not sure what we expected, but I think we thought he'd just love it and start playing right away - nope. :(

So, we switched to the warm water pool, and he relaxed more, even put his little head back on my shoulder while I walked around the water and swayed him in it. Then, all of sudden, he perked up, starting pointing at the "ish" (fish) on the walls, splashing and smiling!

Daddy wanted to take him back to the wading pool but I wasn't so sure. Within a few minutes, Baby Dude was out of Daddy's arms and walking in the water! There was a ball nearby and that made all the difference. He threw the ball in the water, then tried to walk and get it. He fell a few times but Daddy was right there to catch him. :)

After an hour, he was getting the shivers and it was past nap time, so we headed to the family changing room - those things are so great, btw! Well, let's just say he was NOT happy about getting out of the water, getting showered off or getting dressed.

Got to the car, handed him some Teddy Grahams and juice, but he was still just so mad! :favorites21: Ah, gotta love the two's - and we are not even there yet!

Made it home and put him to bed...where he took a nice three hour nap!

Daddy said it was the best Father's Day gift just to get to play in the pool with Baby Dude.

(Sorry - no pictures to share. We left the camera at home. Next time...)

Bedtime Fun!

Aww...sleeping so peacefully.

Lately, Baby Dude has been way into his ducks. He has a yellow rubber duckie and then another yellow duck that plays music and can be pulled behind him.He has been insisting on sleeping with his rubber ducker. If I put him in his crib without it, he cries for "guck, guck."

His crib is now pretty full with his duck, Elmo, Pooh and Diego blanket...not to mention the 3-5 paci's in there too!

Last night, I heard something over the monitor and wasn't sure if he had sneezed or coughed. A few seconds later I hear him same "choo" "choo"....so I guess he sneezed!

My Little Chatterbox!

My parents have a house that is on about an acre of land and has a huge garden plot. We've decided, as a family, to grow all that we can this summer and freeze or can what we can't eat. So, today my Mom, Baby Dude and I went over to K-Mart to get seeds and plants. Saturday is Garden Day.

Baby Dude had a running commentary the whole time. He's becoming quite the chatterbox.'

He dropped his Diego straw cup full of juice "Uh-oh go-go juuz" (Uh oh Diego juice)

He can now hold a little baggie full of snacks, which is so handy for me! He's in the shopping cart with his baggie of grapes, string cheese and crackers. "Mmm", "Goo-goo-gooey" "Eat, Eat!", "Melmo!" (they are Elmo & Big Bird crackers), "Tweet Tweet" for Big Bird. :)

When his snacks were all gone, he handed me the empty bag, signed all done and said "don", which I think was supposed to be gone. That was a new one!

Walking by a display of those large bouncy balls..."ooh!" "ball, ball, ball!" "yeez!" (please) Who could resist?

He loves his Doodle Pro and has a small travel version. We had brought it with him and he was doodling while sitting in the shopping cart. I asked him what he was drawing and he said "Melmo" LOL!

Today, it was a full sentence, I swear! "Daddy go?" (meaning, where is Daddy?) He spies Daddy in the den and says, "Oh! Ee-he-is! Daddy! (Oh, here he is, Daddy)

And best of all, I've finally become Mama! It took 22 months, but now he will regularly call me Mama! :) It was so worth the wait.

My First Burrito

We are trying to get Baby Dude to eat some new foods, and decided last night that he would eat what Mommy and Daddy were eating...tough love, I know. So, I made him a little tortilla with some beans and cheese. He did pretty good with it too!
